SERPENT’S ORDER were created in Athens in 2017 and this year they introduced themselves to us with the release of their debut album “Watchers of the Future”. The record includes seven songs with a total duration of about forty-three minutes and their style could be described as Blackened Death Metal.

This musical description is exquisitely captured on their debut, with the record having a heavy/aggressive sound with mainly fast but also slower parts, in which the guitars have a doomy-almost melancholic tone, creating a dark atmosphere. Of course, the characteristic tremolo on guitar is present and, in some songs, we also find melodies that produce a “sick” and “claustrophobic” aura, giving a special character to the compositions. Despite the fact that SERPENT’S ORDER have done a really good job at the guitar section, I cannot say the same about the drums, which sound like programmed and monotonous, just following the rhythm of the songs. The production is as it should be for this kind of sound and the performance of Velnias on vocals is really good.

Overall, “Watchers of the Future” is a fairly dynamic debut for SERPENT’S ORDER with songs that will satisfy many fans of Blackened Death Metal and Black Metal sound.
