The Germans REBELLION is a Power/Heavy Metal band founded by the former GRAVE DIGGER members Uwe Lulis and Tomi Göttlich in 2001, releasing their first of nine full-length albums in 2002. Their ninth album, “We Are The People “, will be released in July this year.

With many years on their back, the Germans return to the discography, with significant changes in their line-up, since only Göttich (on bass) and Michael Seifert (on vocals) are the only original members left at the band. In 2019 they replaced one of their guitarists with Martin Girmza while in 2021 they replaced their drummer with Sven Tost and their second guitarist with Fabrizio Constantino. So completely renewed, REBELLION come to present their new work.

To begin, let’s take a look at their cover inspired by the Greek mythology, depicting a impoverished Europe, holding the ragged flag of the European Union, while next to it, in a burning landscape, Zeus looks probably dead in the form of a bull, as he kidnapped Europe. The reason for this rather strange cover has to do with the themes that REBELLION lyrically decided to present, as in the twelve songs of their album they talk about wars and upheavals that shook the Old Continent, from the French Revolution to the Second World War.

Musically, the style of the songs follows the familiar style from the previous releases of the band, in Heavy Metal tracks beautifully combined with Power Metal elements, classic examples of the great German school. However, the changes at the band’s line-up are obvious, as fresh ideas appear in songs such as “Risorgimento”, “Libertè, Égalité, Fraternité” and the very beautiful “Gods Of War”, where many elements of modern European Power Metal make their appearance, giving new breath to the music of the band but also creating a combination of “traditional” with the fresh-modern sound.

In the new REBELLION’S work, the lyrical themes alone will surely keep the listener’s interest as each song is a small history lesson. Musically, the new elements will help maintain someone’s interest, giving us a set worthy of listening.
