WASTING THE GENESIS is a Spanish band (more specifically from Malaga, in the south of the country), which consists of five members. The EP “Prey” is their third work after the EP “Martyrdom” of 2013 and the full length “Viral Supremacy” in 2016. It contains four songs with a total duration of just 16.18 minutes. What bothered me from the beginning was that all of their releases so far are self- financed, having not released anything under a record label. Of course, they state that they want to be completely independent and do everything by themselves, from production, covers/artwork and promotion…

So what is the music of WASTING THE GENESIS? The band plays a completely modern and extreme Death Metal with a few touches of technical Deathcore and Grindcore (especially in their very harsh vocals). Their influences are clearly CARNIFEX, THY ART IS MURDER, and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. The four tracks are of the same level, with many changes in tempo and structures. However, I would rather single out the track “Genesis”, which presents many changes and “surprises”.

As an advantage I would mention the strength, the volume and the pure brutality that this release emerges. But the biggest problem of “Prey” is the mediocre production which is “muffled”. The higher the volume is up the worse it gets. Second disadvantage is that no matter how many times I’ve listened to it, nothing remained in my mind.

As a final conclusion I would say that this is an EP that doesn’t have many thing to say, correctly not being released under any label. WASTING THE GENESIS is already a band for 10 years, having not achieved anything remarkable. I am very afraid that it will not succeed with “Prey” either….
