Do you remember a movie in the late 90’s called “The Ninth Gate”? In a nutshell, it was a search for a book written by the thinker Aristides Torchia and illustrated by Lucifer himself, with the aim of opening the Ninth Gate and the secrets the book hides (more details would be spoiler and irrelevant to our topic). So the name of this fantastic thinker is borrowed by TORCHIA and the same happens with their singer, Edward Torchia (Eetu Hentunen) as also with the name of this band.

It is a quintet from Finland, with seven years of life and two full-length studio albums. Here we will deal with their second entitled “The Coven”. The album includes nine compositions (again “nine”, but not intended I believe…), with the opener being the very dynamic “Sky”, a song that fulfills its purpose by quickly putting the listener in the mood of the band. The album doesn’t last long, just 38 minutes, but it’s definitely 38 FULL minutes!

Melodic Death Metal, faithful to the Finnish tradition in the genre, with several melodies, loud riffs and harsh vocals, which are really good in the genre! Beautiful tracks (besides the already mentioned “Sky”) are “Moon, Rise!”, “Memoirs” and “Forever Blood”, which closes the album in a nice way.

The music of TORCHIA is not the one that will blow your mind, nor the one that will go unnoticed. “The Coven” is an album that will be pleasant to listen to, it won’t make you get lost in music, but you’ll want to listen to it again. TORCHIA is a decent Melodic Death Metal band which, perhaps with a little more attention at their compositions and a few more elements to enrich its sound, will have a great future

We thank them for their good work, looking forward for their next work…
