SWEET OBLIVION is a Melodic / Progressive Metal band, which consists of Aldo Lonobile (ARCHON ANGEL, ex – ELVENKING) on guitars, Gigi Andreone (A PERFECT DAY, ODD DIMENSION) on bass, Michele Sanna (ex Turilli / Lione RHAPSODY, SUNSTORM) on drums and Antonio Agate (ex – ARCHON ANGEL, ex – ODD DIMENSION) on keyboards. By themselves and with all the participations in various bands throughout their careers, they are not to be taken lightly. If you add to their line-up one of the most famous, recognizable and characteristic voices in the genre, that of Geoff Tate (ex – QUEENSRYCHE), then surely there is increased curiosity and interest in listening to their music and exploring their sound.

“Relentless” is the second album of the band and it comes as the successor of the very good “Sweet Oblivion” of 2019, which apart from the very good reviews, it also created expectations for the future and the course of the band. From his last works with QUEENSRYCHE and his solo career to the  legal disputes that made him lose the right to use the name of the band that gave him prominence, Tate was accused of lack of inspiration and failed repetition of the same ideas. But the evident chemistry between him and the Italians made their debut highlight that if there is calmness and not the pressure of a “heavy” name on the cover along with beautiful ideas, then the glow of the past begins to appear in today. Today, we have in our hands their second complete work (which like the first) is really very beautiful.

“Relentless” consists of ten compositions. Like its predecessor, not all songs have a specific musical direction. We will find more Progressive Rock songs, we will find more Melodic Heavy Metal directions, some  Blues and Jazz influences and passages, some ballad songs and some songs that will definitely bring to mind QUEENSRYCHE of “Empire” and “Rage For Order” period.  “Once Again One Sin”, “Another Change”, “Wake Up Call”, “Anybody Out There” and the wonderful closing “Fly Angel Fly” will happily accompany us… that’s probably what the albums of SWEET OBLIVION represent in the end… a pleasant company of different songs, which demands the necessary exploration so as to familiarise yourself with the warmth of their sound before pressing the repeat button.

The result of a fruitful collaboration and another interesting album with a huge voice in the microphone, whose performance here finds him in full force and ageless…just invest your time and you will definitely be rewarded…
