POWERWOLF is a Heavy/Power Metal band which usually adds several symphonic and choral parts to its music, which contribute to the creation of an imposing and different atmosphere from other bands of their kind. At the same time, with their first and only visit to our country in the fall of 2019, they showed that in concert is perhaps one of the most entertaining bands that one can watch live, with their additional feature the makeup they wear that would refer to some darker branches of Metal.

“Call Of The Wild” is the tenth full album of the Wolves who have now probably escaped the characterization of the rising and can be among the renowned artists of the Heavy / Power genre, having created their own (large) core of fans. Their lineup remains constant over the course of their sixteen years of existence, while their new record includes eleven songs and it was preceded by two singles before its release, “Beast Of Gevaudan” and “Dancing With The Dead”.

The album opens with “Faster Than The Flame” which after a short introduction, immediately speeds up, starting “Call Of The Wild” in a very dynamic way. The two singles follow, with “Beast Of Gevaudan” being one of the best songs on the album while the next “Varcolac”, with Russian ethnic elements in its music, continues the very good course of the album. “Alive or Undead” slows down being a beautiful ballad, the German lyrics “Glaubenskraft” and “Sermon Of Swords” are songs that should be mentioned, while the eponymous “Call Of The Wild” stands out and “Undress To Confess” once again shows the humorous side of the band.

The album flows easily, the recipe is well known and the compositions are all good, in the familiar style of the Germans. On the one hand, it is good for the listener to know from the beginning what to expect and then not to be disappointed with what he will hear. POWERWOLF know how to make songs that stay imprinted in the mind, they all stand in concert, they are very well orchestrated and Attila’s vocals are characteristic and really good. Despite the fact that for another album the Germans manage to achieve their goal, the fact that they difficult experiment with their music, may in the next album start to get tired and give the feeling of repetition, stopping this fairly upward trend.
