Since OUT OF THE WORLD is unknown to most of you as a name, let’s start with the necessary introduction. The band is a new initiative, made up of musicians with quite a long history in the rock scene. The mastermind of OUT OF THIS WORLD is none other than Kee Marcello, known from his active contribution in EUROPE’s successful carrer. Besides, for those who are familiar with EUROPE, “Out Of This World” was the title of their fourth album and first with Kee Marcello, released in 1988, so this meant to be the link with this project. In fact, the whole thing went so far that during the search for a band name, the suggestion of “Kee Marcello’s Europe” came up, but fortunately this was quickly rejected. The band consists of Tommy Heart (FAIR WARNING), Ken Sansin (ALIEN) and Darby Tod (DEVIN TOWNSEND, GARY MOORE, THE DARKNESS) and as you can imagine, expectations are very high.

Melodic hard rock, that’s what we mainly listen to on OUT OF THIS WORLD’s self-titled debut, music that takes us back to the mid to late 80s, a time when the hard rock genre was booming and had a large and fanatic audience base. So, here we listen to a catchy and largely playful rock that flirts with AOR, driven by beautiful melodic guitar and keyboard lines. And of course, a great voice that creates the mood for repeated sing-alongs.

The album starts with an unexpectedly long track, which is in my opinion the best moment of the album. “Twilight” lasts seven minutes and is the clear proof that “Out Of This World” can offer much more than short “commercial” compositions. From there on, I enjoy every listen, whether it is about ballad tracks like “Up To You” and “Only You Can Teach Me How To Love Again”, or on its more hard rock paths (“Staring At The Sun”, “Lighting Up My Dark” and “Hanging On”). There are few mediocre compositions, but they do not spoil the beautiful flow of the album.

In conclusion, “Out Of This World” definitely shines, with a free sense of fun, music and camaraderie. It has passion, good chemistry, elegance and will undoubtedly satisfy those who like light melodic hard rock sounds. Check it out.
