All introductions for the Greek Deathsters OBSECRATION are superfluous as anyone who is seriously involved in the underground Death Metal scene is unlikely to be unfamiliar with them (if you are, you should check them out immediately!!!). A band that since 1991 has given us some remarkable Death Metal releases with seven, including this year’s, full-lengths, three EPs and several splits, having won the respect of all. So, seven years after “Into the Bloodemonium”, the Athenian trio returns with the dynamite “Onwards the Mystic Paths of the Dead” and drags us into a Death / Thrash Metal orgy.

Compared to their previous album, the band on the new album returns to its roots, while remaining faithful to the vision and heritage it has created over the years. Their Death Metal approach, influenced by early MORBID ANGEL and PESTILENCE, has been enriched with some Thrash Metal elements influenced by the German school of the 80’s. In the 47 minutes of the album, the rhythms are furious with razor-sharp guitars, deadly offensive drums in an eerie and creepy atmosphere. Their sound could be described as KREATOR of the first three albums playing old-fashioned Death Metal in a sick and rotten environment. The old school production with the macabre cover ideally dresses the whole package, giving us a very good dark Death Metal record.

OBSECRATION on the new album maintains their appetite and passion by creating a Death / Thrash Metal torrent faithful to their tradition. The band proves that the flame is still burning inside them, and the album is heard in its entirety as it is difficult to choose songs since everything is on a high standard. All Death Metal fans should listen to “Onwards The Mystic Paths Of The Dead”, as it is one of this year’s best releases and OBSECRATION is one of Greece’s best Death Metal bands.
