MORGARTEN is a Folk/Black Metal band from Switzerland and derives its name from the medieval battle of Morgarten, which took place in 1315, between three Swiss tribes against the House of Hapsburg for sovereignty over their territories, which The Hapsburgs had annexed, with the Swiss as the winners.

From the name alone, one can understand that the theme of the Swiss revolves around the battles, but also around some imaginary subjects. MORGARTEN as a band is not young. It was born in 2005, without having released anything till the debut album in 2015.

From then till now, the band remained silent. This year, it returned with three singles and the second full-length album entitled “Cry Of The Lost”.  The album includes twelve songs, the first of which is a short-lived instrumental introduction. If there is one thing that is definitely present in all the songs, this is the melody and the epic elements, with the keys and the atmosphere being emphasized by symphonic parts but also from the appearance of orchestral backing vocals. Generally, the atmosphere that prevails throughout the album is epic in combination with particular folk elements that appear in various parts, maintaining the listener’s interest.

I would not say that MORGARTEN’s music has something really original, however it is interesting with some unique elements. With their second full-length album, the Swiss offer us a really beautiful album that the friends of this sound will appreciate.
