Athenar strikes again after two years! This “outcast” of Black Metal, for some people remains a graphic guy that has stack back in time. But come on, he does not give a shit for all these comments. So, what is wrong for someone to stay all day and night in his basement in Cleveland, Ohio and create records instantly? Did we do anything better during the quarantine? I’m just saying… We’ve mentioned it before: bands like MIDNIGHT, WATAIN, MGLA is the hope of BLACK METAL and it’s important to have a good time listening to the music we like, whether some bands are “true” or not.

So since we’re talking about music, here at “Let There Be Witchery” (MIDNIGHT ‘s 5th album), Athenar does it all on his own and it does it well. He gives us once again raw, fast and dirty Black ‘N’ Roll. The new album sounds like the natural continuation of the previous “Rebirth By Blasphemy” in all the basic elements (lyrics, titles, style, sound). The only difference here is that, while it is again based mainly on MOTORHEAD, VENOM, CELTIC FROST (“Morbid Tales” era) structures, here is more Punk-ish. Otherwise, the album remains old school aesthetics as a whole, although its first half is more subdued than its b’ side.

Of course, there is no lack of fast moments, but compared to their predecessor I would say that it is inferior in the end. Anyway, I have to repeat that when we are talking about MIDNIGHT we mean a stable value live on stage in the phase: “I have a good time anyway because I like it – without much interest if it is the best track of the world that I hear at the moment”, so we look forward to enjoy them again live in our town!
