How about going down to some Black Metal trails today? Yes; Okay then! Let’s go to the Greek band FOVITRON. Created in 2014, with an EP (“Fovitron”) in 2017 already in their luggages, this year and in fact this month, they circulated the first complete album, entitled “Altar Of Whispers”. So let’s dive into it…

The album begins with an orchestral intro, which while it brings out a lot of “epicness” as a composition and can confuse the listener a bit as the band does not play something that reminds this genre, succeeds and puts us in a “strange” mood, a little dark and inhospitable, so in a way, the blackness that is all around the album does not seem hostile and strange at all. The keyboards are the dominant instrument in this band, which in the music those guys are composing, is not at all bad. Numerous layers of keyboards, with melodies and with a lot of choirs and orchestral parts are give the necessary atmosphere for the symphonic Black Metal played by FOVITRON, according to the “label” they put themselves. Simple guitars, mostly without many “virtuosic” riffs, with the melodies that are enough to bring out the atmosphere the band and the album needs. Unfortunately, the bass is a bit low in the whole mix and I would like it a little higher, as the record would definitely be heavier with that. Of course, it may have been intentional so that the tremble frequencies would come out more, so if that’s the case, its ok with me. The drums are what we expect in this kind of music. We have double bass drumming, we have blast beats, we have slow parts, each, where it should be. Finally, the voice is a nice Black Metal voice, but at the same time clear, so we can almost distinguish the lyrics, but without losing its identity to a minimum. We should mention their guest vocalist  at this point, which is Nancy Mos from FROTIS VENTUS, in the song “Endless Whispers”.

In general, we have a nice album, atmospheric, melodic, strong where needed and very, very dark!!! With influences mostly from the Norwegian scene, such as LIMBONIC ART, DRACONIUM, put some old CRADLE OF FILTH in too, and we have a strong mix of influences for sure. A band that definitely deserves the promotion and support from all of us.
