The Hungarian Heavy / Thrash Metallers EKTOMORF are back with a Thrash roller coaster, after 2018’s  “Fury”. This is a real “thrash attack”, coming from a historical band that had its first musical steps back in the distant 1994.

“Reborn” grabs you by the throat with the opening super thrashy “Ebullition” and here, the listener can immediately understand that this will be no “joke” at all. The band is known for its groove rhythms and this could not be missing, being the main element of this musical endeavor. “Reborn” is, in a way, the single/hit of the album. This is the reason why the band has survived so many years unscathed and shows why the guys know how to do well what they do. In addition to the mid-tempo groove rhythms, it also contains a melodic acoustic passage, as well as some quite melodic and sticky solos. The rest moments of the album continue somehow like this, with the characteristic mid-tempo rhythms (as in “And the dead will walk”), but also some faster and more destructive tunes here and there (“Where the hate conceives”). The diversity exists in one piece, since in here, you will find a slow-tempo, melodic “Forsaken” track. In the end, like any self-respecting Thrash attack, the whole things goes down with an ultra-fast “Smashing The Past”.

The production is fine, like most ones nowadays. The lyrics are full of rage. The instruments are where they are supposed to be, the bass plows from behind and fills the sound nicer than we could expect. The only problem with this release (and it’ s not a small problem), is that as time goes on, I do not find enough diversity in the compositions. Commonly, EKTOMORF follow their well-known path almost continuously. They know how to do something satisfactorily and they do deliver this task. It would just help if we listened to different rhythms as well, more often.

The fans of the Hungarians will enjoy “Reborn” and will not be disappointed at all, that;s for sure. EKTOMORF is a well-oiled machine, and it seems they have worked hard for this. Thrash Metal of the past, meets with that of today quite well. However, that is all.
