Today (Friday 10th), the multi-national down-tempo/Deathcore act that emerged from Rotterdam, The Netherlands as well as from Bratislava, Slovakia, releases its third full-length, “Heritage”, via Century Media Records. A couple days ago the band dropped a music video for the title track of their new album featuring LORNA SHORE’s Will Ramos.

DISTANT comment on the track: ” ‘Heritage’, the title track from the newest DISTANT album, is a playful and colorful track featuring Will Ramos from LORNA SHORE. ‘Heritage’ is a breathtakingly heavy track yet still emotional, with a huge chorus and pace to last you for days, showcasing the diversity of our Dutch/Slovak collective! At last, the father and son cross blades; during this exhausting battle, they remember the times forgotten as the clash of their blades sparks new light and brings up the twisted revelation of this catastrophic deception.”

DISTANT has become one of the prominent faces of European Deathcore. Melding together Brutal Death Metal, Slam, Noise and beatdown with a hyper-dissonant orchestra of impending doom, they’ve come eons since their origins as Metalcore obsessed friends in Rotterdam and Bratislava. ‘Heritage”, the quintet’s Century Media debut and third installment of bone crushing, thick-as-concrete heaviness, takes their trademark “Downtempo/Deathcore” and pushes it into the red. “It’s low and slow,” smirks Alan Grnja, describing the band’s sound. “Musically, lyrically, we try to travel the uncharted and come up with something you can only call DISTANT.”

Produced by the band’s guitarist Nouri Yetgin and WITHIN DESTRUCTION guitarist Howard Fang plus co-producer Simone Pietroforte, “Heritage” is DISTANT’s coming of age and reckoning moment. “This is the perfect DISTANT record,” says Alan. “I want it to be a genre-defining album in the same way ‘The Cleansing’ was for SUISIDE SILENCE – I would say this album is for us.”

With an impressive discography of two highly regarded LPs plus a number of singles and EPs behind them, DISTANT is poised to become the face of European Deathcore. “Heritage”, sees the five-piece take things to a new level, with a musical and lyrical reckoning: the album continues on the thematic, sci-fi-leaning lyrical cycle which the band transposed from aural intensity to the published page with vocalist Alan Grnja’s and bassist Elmer Maurits’ first novel, “The Rise Of Tyrannotophia”. Already seen and heard across stages worldwide (including 2022’s Summer Breeze and Brutal Assault, as well as North America’s “Chaos & Carnage” tour with labelmates LORNA SHORE and SUICIDE SILENCE), the tracks found on “Heritage” once again deliver DISTANT’s signature brand of down-tuned and downtempo heaviness. This is the sound of Deathcore rising…
