The German Progressive Metallers DISILLUSION, return after thirteen whole years with a fairly dynamic, mature release that is an evolution of their sound compared to their previous works. I bet most of their fans had eliminated the possibility of releasing a new album. However, this album continues exactly from where their last two ones stopped, and at the same time, it is a “must listen” release for the genre…

…which in a nutshell is Progressive Metal. The album begins with an acoustic opening, before listening to the epic “Wintertide”, a track that lasts almost thirteen minutes, which has endless alternations! Somewhere around here, the listener understands that he will experience an acoustic, complex “adventure”. The vocals are usually dynamic screams but in the audible passages, they are clear, with beautiful and melodic lines while others with a more traveling mood. The riffs are strong, during the same song, but not only. Some melodies will be stuck in the listener’s mind. Mainly in the aforementioned track, which is really a blast of a song.

Next in line is the only quite aggressive part of the album, but at the same time a quite technical song. I’m talking about “The Great Unknown”. The album also features a fairly ‘70s Prog Rock song (brought to the band’s most Metal element),“A Shimmer In The Darkest Sea”, which is completely different from the previous ones. I can also hear various beautiful melodic riffs and many great technical parts. All of this is mixed and blunted together, giving us this extremely well tied result. Special mention should be given to the last track “The Mountain”. This is because its atmosphere is extremely epic. The listener feels like he is on the top of an icy mountain, feeling a melancholy while looking down. This very feeling of the frozen mountain and the winter’s cold is what the listener can feel often listening to “The Liberation”, as the music is quite “frozen”.

Those of you who have been waiting for the new DISILLUSION project for thirteen years, the wait was largely worth it. It is definitely successful, progressive, melodic, with an epic atmosphere, loud riffs, beautiful melodies and it is definitely a very “clever” release. We hope we don’t hear from them again in 2032!
