The pandemic and the cancellation of concerts and tours gave enough time to the musicians, in order to work on new music and new projects. So, out of nowhere it was announced that George Corpsegrinder Fisher, CANNIBAL CORPSE’s beloved singer, will release his first solo album! This really surprised me, as Fisher does not participate in composition of CC’s music, so I was curious on how all this will come out; a question that was solved when it was revealed that behind this new project is Jamey Jasta of HATEBREED. Apart from the production of the album, Jamey released “Corpsegrinder” album through his new record label.

So, Jamey Jasta, having the compositions almost ready, invites Fisher to take over the vocals while the drums and the guitars are handled by Charlie and Nick Bellmore (DEE SNIDER, KINGDOM OF SORROW respectively). And that’s how the first solo album by Corpsegrinder is a reality! The album includes ten songs with an average duration of three minutes, so the compositions are direct and violent and could be described as a more Death Metal version of HATEBREED grafted with some Thrash Metal influences. Corpsegrinder’s vocals are not differentiated in the slightest from what we have heard in CANNIBAL CORPSE’s albums, which is something that caused a negative impression on me, as I thought it would differ in a solo album. It would be a good opportunity to hear him trying some other styles at his voice. The result of this is that there are times when you think that you are listening to a CANNIBAL CORPSE’s album. The New York Death Metallers’ guitarist Eric Rutan also participates in the song “Acid Vat”.

The album sounds pleasant without huge excitement, as it moves on several familiar and safe Extreme Metal musical paths without any surprises. Also, its duration, just over half an hour, helps the record not to become boring and repetitive. We don’t know yet if this project will continue, but as a debut it can be considered satisfactory, offering some pleasant auditions to all fans of CANNIBAL CORPSE and Extreme Metal in general.
