The traditional old school Death Metal is ready for more glorious days again!! Norway’s death metal legends CADAVER, a truly historic band, one of the first of their kind to see their work printed on vinyl back in 1990, after 16 years of absence are giving us some small sings of life in this new, short but very promising EP. With only founding member the guitarist Anders Odden and with the assistance of the Belgian drummer Dirk Verbeuren (now on MEGADETH< ex-SOILWORK, ABORTED and tons more) unleash this digital (at least for the moment) release with obvious aim to prepare the ground for something important as a follow up since I don’t think a big label like Nuclear Blast would put them under their roof for no good reason.

So, let’s see what we’ve got here. In total, we have 3 new songs lasting around 10 minutes. The opening track is the self-titled with the participation of the great Jeff Walker of the mighty CARCASS on vocals, giving his boost without, fortunately, making the track sound much alike those of the English legends. The chorus that says “Fuck, don’t give a fuck” I think says it all, it’s a powerful groovy song with fast outbursts and nice old school leads filling its sound. Next is “Deformed Insanity” with its insane riffing in the vein of old MORBID ANGEL and the prog touches of DEATH and CYNIC here and there and finally the third song called “Disgrace” which is a death/grind furious stream (here I think Jell Walker would fit much better, or maybe not if they wanted to avoid any attempts for comparison of the bands) and we have already reached the end. The production was done at the Northwood Studios in Hollywood, California smething that rathers explains the US death metal influences here and there while we must definitely pay our respects to the totally old school gory artwork made by Adam Medford and Justin Bartlett which reminds us old glorious days of brutality and crudeness.

There are no more things to say here I think, I will just add that if CADAVER are going to release a new album following these steps, we, the dedicated fans (especially us who are over a certain age) of old traditional death metal should start getting prepared to live again great parties with tons of meat, beers and moshing. The grade is not important, just for the sake of it.
